Even after being flooded out of their original home by Hurricane Katrina, Joyce and Joe Salpietra were still taken off guard by Hurricane Gustav's storm surge.

"I never believed you could have your heart's desire," says longtime Bay St. Louis resident Kat Fitzpatrick, whose dream had always been to work full time as an artist.

Schools in the southern part of Pearl River County and in Hancock County suffered only minor damage from Hurricane Gustav.
